ANZAC Celebrations 30TH January
The evening commenced with a slide-song presentation emphasizing the multi-cultural nature of Australian society and its development. Br Joe McCarthy then took us on a scenic tour of New Zealand including spectacular shots from both islands.
After these presentations and the national anthems we proceeded to the tables for pre-dinner drinks. Our guests included sisters from three congregations: Handmaids of the Sacred Heart of Jesus (ACI), Sacred Heart of our Mother of Mercy (SCMM) and Little Sisters of the Assumption (LSA). In addition we had as guest Dr Dick de Leon, a good friend of MAPAC.
Our meal consisted of three courses: first tomato soup, then sausages and mashed potato for the main course and finally ice cream and fruit salad. These courses were interspersed with games of two-up, the winner of each game receiving a furry replica of Australian wild life. Also there was a keenly contested ANZAC quiz which was jointly won by the Platypus and Poutukawa table teams. The singing of Waltzing Matilda, the Fields of Athenry and a Maori love song added a musical dimension to the evening. Bro. Ralph Arnel
